Soft pastels in the form of drawing sticks provide the opportunity to work with unadulterated pure colour. The pastels are applied to an artist quality support that has a rough surface where the surface tooth captures the dry pigments as they are applied. This is then covered and prenatally sealed with clear transparent varnish allowing each colour to remain 100 % pure.
The Chair series revolves around personal belongings and how they reflect the owners’ personality. Chairs all have individual characteristics depending on design, materials that make them up, age, colour and where they are placed. All of us have a favourite chair or two. These are a few of mine. Each painting in this series is an exploration in mark-making on heavy gauge artist quality handmade paper.
