Collection: 9 x 5

This 9 x 5 exhibition features the work of six local artists and landscape painters.

Though modest in scale, the work captures a sweeping sense of place, evoking the rhythms of light, terrain, and atmosphere. Created in direct observation through en plein air and memory, the artists work within the constraints of a uniform scale.

The compact dimensions reference the tradition of the 1889 Australian "9 by 5 Impression Exhibition," where artists embraced the size of a cigarette box lid to capture fleeting impressions of the natural world.

These paintings find the essence of what is felt rather than seen in the landscape.
