When the Day comes, You Will Know

This painting started as voluminous blooms but felt really constrained on the canvas. As I pulled the paint back, I started to hum Spring, from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. I knew in that moment that I wanted to paint a spring rain that whirls up the leaves and puts us all on edge… ‘will the blossoms blow off the tree… will the roses survive?’ So many questions about strength and resilience. The painting emerged slowly and I understood: we need to remember we are resilient and that although things may sometimes appear confused, chaotic, like a spring rain storm, the clearing does appear and the minute it happens, when the break comes, the calm returns and the path forward and upward becomes clear.
