Behold the jacaranda! How many of us have stopped in our tracks, taken by the dance of a jacaranda tree in full bloom? This painting was inspired by the joy I felt the first time I saw jacarandas in bloom. Walking to work one morning along the Brisbane River in West End, I came upon a row of jacarandas in full bloom. Instantly, I was taken out of my feelings and thoughts and thrown in to the beauty that surrounded me. The aroma and visual feast lifted me right in to joy. Having immigrated from Canada, I had never seen a jacaranda. In an instant, I forgot about my feelings of being alone and I felt that all was well in my world. Life is a series of winters and springs. The trees teach us to nest and to nurture and then to bloom unapologetically when the conditions are right. Who else celebrates their arrival with, ‘we made it, spring is here’?
