Rest is not idleness

Across our farm, lines of deciduous trees that were deliberately planted decades ago to mimic an English homeland follow fences like lemmings, while a handful of huge old Gums that were spared the pioneer’s axe sit in the middle of paddocks, staking their claim. To clear my head I’ve been walking across our farm, taking the time to sit and watch the comical lollipop shadows that our trees cast move throughout the day. I often feel conflicted that I’m wasting time however I remind myself that rest is necessary to heal, not idleness. “Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time. “ John Lubbock
