"It was June, and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside". - Maud Hart Lovelace.
I read that first line and was transported. The painting appeared instantly. I remembered the rambling roses in my nana's garden in Cheshire, England, from where near daily, we would walk up in to the hills, feed carrots to horses and return home with mud sodden shoes and happy hearts. These days I enjoy the roses in the outback where I live. Friends regularly bring big rose blooms to my studio, drenching it in beauty. As the petals drop, I collect them, study them and gain inspiration for colour palettes. Many of the backgrounds in the show, Spring Hearts Grow Young, were inspired by a single rose petal.
